He served as a guard or former dressing room concierge. It marked the entrance to the site of the Graben.
This house, located 18 rue des Keys, was facing one of the properties Hartmann, destroyed during the First World War. The oral tradition nicknamed "Musikhisla" (the small house music) because Hartmann often invited musicians to their homes.

The building is located instead of November 11 whose names former "Wàsaplatz" which means instead of grazing. That is, outside the walls of the city that had livestock grazing.
One of the fortified towers of Munster stood at the site of the entrance to this house.
Just beside "àlt Krahj" was probably the chemical laboratory of Henri Loewel (1795-1856) where he worked nearly five years.
