The hospital Loewel takes its name from a donation made by Henri Loewel (1795-1856), renowned chemist and man of science working for institutions Hartmann. He was mayor of Munster in 1848.
The hospital was inaugurated on June 10, 1887. Damaged during the Great War, the hospital was refurbished in 1927.
