The road crests: scenic route linking farms hostels

La Route des Crêtes, a former strategic road, was built in 1915 by French troops. The road that follows the ridgeline offers a spectacular view of the Vosges summits and major lakes. Many hiking trails start from the road Crests. Of the mass of Hohneck, Markstein and the Grand Ballon it is possible to see chamois reintroduced in the 1950's. |
Col de la Schlucht
The Schlucht is the highest pass in the Vosges (1139m). The surrounding landscapes are of great beauty. The pass is frequented since 1857, following the construction of a road linking the Soultzeren Collet, then its extension toward Gérardmer. Two trams served the pass, the first inaugurated in 1903 connected until 1939 Gérardmer the Hohneck through Schlucht. The second ran from 1907 to 1914 and linked to Munster Col. The pass was visited emperors Napoleon III and William II. At about 4 km from the Schlucht, a road provides access to Hohneck, one of the highest summits of the Vosges (1366m). Its mass is worthy of the finest alpine sites. The nature reserve Frankenthal-Missheimle is one of eight national reserves of Alsace. Created in 1989, in the Regional Nature Park balloons des Vosges, an area of 746.36 hectares, the site and the region have experienced an occupation by the Merovingians and Carolingians as recall a few names (cave Dagobert, Valley Francs ( Frankenthal). The landscape is marked by a strong relief that gives the site features "Alpine". |

Walking on the trail of rocks (GR 531)
In Munster, go to Ampfersbach. Park the car at the Auberge des Cascades and follow the trail of rocks. During this walk, you surplomberez cascades of Stoltzabloss and cross the glacial cirque of Frankenthal. The trail carved into the wall until Col de la Schlucht, is difficult but the course offers beautiful views.
The station altitude (850 m) is called, quite rightly, the "Balcony of the valley." It has certain vertiginous views over the valley of Munster and the Vosges chain. On the heights of Hohrodberg, toward Orbey, a memorial recalls the bitter fighting there place in 1915. Also, is not it a coincidence that this battlefield is called "Tomb of hunters." The Memorial Museum of linen with his battlefield of the 1st World War is open from April to November from 9am to 12.30pm and 14h-18h.

This mountain, which rises to 1272 m east of the kingdom marcaires. They have established their farms and their hostels marcairies. Pastures of Ried and Kahlenwasen are remarkable and beautiful sight. The summit Kahlenwasen be mistaken resembles the alpine landscapes.

The Valley of the Wormsa and Lake Fischboedle

The valley of the Wormsa is accessible from a place called Steinabruck, out of Metzeral, direction Mittlach. Located at the bottom of the Great Valley (out of Metzeral, to Mittlach) at the foot of massive Hohneck and Kastelberg, the beautiful valley of the Wormsa (site) illustrates perfectly the work of a glacier vosgien 's Quaternary era. Crêtes shaped circus, steep slopes and rocky, moraines, granite abraded and deep lakes are all vestiges reflecting the presence of this powerful glacier.
The valley of the Wormsa, which leads to Lake Fischboedle (794 m), a veritable small jewel heart of the Vosges, is also one of the most beautiful places hikes for any fan of enchanting landscapes. |

The lake Schiessrothried, glacial origin, is located at the foot of Hohneck. Formerly surcreusée bog, it really became a lake by building a small dam, causing many to believe that it is of natural origin. The lake is bordered by many hiking trails marked by the Club Vosgien. One of the most beautiful sites in the valley of Munster. Starting from Soultzeren. A marked path leads from Lac Vert or terminal of Hirchteren from the road to Wettstein, towards the lake.

Lac vert (ou de Soultzeren)
Green Lake is accessible preferably by car from the road to Col de la Schlucht. Under the effect of aquatic plants, the lake will disturb and take a greenish color, usually during the month of July.
Lac de l’Altenweiher
The Altenweiher ( "old pond"), located at the foot of Rainkopf and Kastelberg is a typical example of vosgiens lakes of glacial origin nestled in these circuses and sanded heavily eroded by the Quaternary glaciers. The lake is bordered by many hiking trails marked by the Club Vosgien. The legend says that the hiker can observe silent, with a full moon night, around midnight, trolley or arising from the bottom of the waves and dark bouillonnantes of Altenweiher.
